About Us
We met at a tap dance school for adults, each of us having decided to return to dance. When the dance teacher decided to move on, rather than lose the enjoyment we had only just rekindled, and the new friendships we had made, we decided to meet regularly once a week and continue to tap. Eventually, we were invited to do a ‘guest spot’ at the Tivoli theatre in Applecross, where our tap dancing was warmly received. We joined the Tivoli Club as members, and have remained performing there ever since. Some of the original dancers have moved on since then, and others have come to join us. Being seniors ourselves, The Silver Taps actively support Seniors Week, having taken part in several seniors concerts including the Rottnest Island Seniors Week event in 2005 and 2006, plus the BBC Entertainment concerts for wheelchair-bound seniors. We have also appeared in the Perth Town Hall Seniors Christmas concerts along with other Tivoli cast members. We have performed in support of numerous worthwhile causes, including the Lord Mayor’s Tsunami Relief Concert 2005; and the North Metropolitan Health Service Ball. We also support Anglicare and have performed for the 2007 Knit-in and the 2007 Amana Living residents party. This year we also performed at the CWA South Pacific Area Conference at the Burswood. We were finalists in the BankWest ‘Search for a Senior Star’ competition in 2004 held at the Regal Theatre with a classy routine choreographed by Norma Schneider. Although we didn’t win the competition, it was a lot of fun and we gained recognition for our accomplishments and a regular following of dedicated tap dance enthusiasts. Tap routines choreographed and performed by the Silver Taps include:
